Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
Workstation
- 16” MacBook Pro Max, M1, 32GB RAM (2021)- I was using an Intel-based 16” MacBook Pro prior to this and the difference is night and day. I’ve never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through. The battery life is also insane. I can go a full day of work without plugging in.
- 2x DELL 27” 4K Monitors (U2720Q)- The only display on the market if you want quality similar to Apple Retina Displays. When you're working with code all day, it's worth the investment.
- Apple Magic Keyboard 2 (US)- Love the minimalistic design and it feels exactly the same as using my MacBook Pro
- Apple Magic Trackpad 2- I don’t know why I like this so much more than a mouse. Maybe it's the gestures that increase my productivity when moving around apps.
- Custom Wooden Desk with Motorized Legs- Best investment I’ve made for my home office. I can switch between sitting and standing. Bought the legs from Amazon and had the tabletop ordered from a wood craftsman.
Development tools
- IntelliJ IDEA & PHPStorm- I absolutely love the JetBrains suite of IDEs. Although not the fastest, they have amazing, well thought integrated tools which are one of the kind and impossible to get elsewhere.
- Warp Terminal- The new kid on the block. Literally block-per-command. Warp has completely brought up to date the terminal experience. They recently introduced AI & AI Agent which is a game-changer.
- TablePlus- Great software for working with databases. Very user-friendly UI and supports all the databases I use.
DevOps Tools
- Lens- I've tried multiple Kubernetes management tools and Lens is by far the best.
- Elastic Stack- I use ELK to monitor logs, metrics, and APM. It's a great tool for debugging and monitoring.
- Grafana- A little better than ELK for metrics monitoring. I mostly monitor the infrastructure with Grafana.
- ArgoCD- The best tool for GitOps. I use ArgoCD to manage all my Kubernetes deployments.
- Vim- Undeniably the best text editor when you SSH into a remote server. Nothing beats VIM.
Productivity
- Raycast- A Spotlight replacement for macOS. Find anything on your computer in seconds. Launch apps, run scripts, search the web, and more. Absolutely love the hyperkey feature.
- Apple Notes, Reminders, Calendar, Mail- I've made a decision to use Apple's native apps for productivity and it's been working great for me. From meeting management, to todo lists, to notes, everything is in one place.
